Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Volume 2

Volume 2 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba collects original chapters 8 through 16. After training under his master Sakonji Urokodaki, the boy Tanjiro Kamado finally stands in the final selection exam of the Demon Slayer Corps, facing monstrous, grotesque demons head-on; only by surviving this life-and-death trial can he qualify as a true Demon Slayer swordsman. Using the Water Breathing technique taught by Urokodaki, Tanjiro fights desperately on Mount Fujikasane; after the selection ends, he returns to Urokodaki and sets out with his sister Nezuko, who has awakened and is to some extent restrained by him, for a town where girls mysteriously disappear every night. This volume advances the main plot through unit missions such as the Swamp Demon, and introduces several important characters who run through the rest of the series: Tamayo, who studies demons, and Yushiro make their first appearance here, and Tanjiro also first comes face to face with Muzan Kibutsuji, the progenitor of all demons and the culprit who killed his family, planting the deepest foreshadowing for the story. At the same time, Tanjiro obtains his own Nichirin sword and is formally equipped to slay demons. Warmth, humor, and bloody battles intertwine, making this the volume where the series truly picks up speed. This is volume 2 of the series.
