This volume is the fourth tankobon of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, subtitled "The Stout Blade," collecting chapters 26 through 31. After escaping the mansion inhabited by the drum-controlling demon, Tanjiro steps outside and runs straight into a boy in a boar's-head mask brutally beating Zenitsu Agatsuma; he immediately intervenes, and in the ensuing conflict meets Inosuke Hashibira for the first time. After a brief rest, Tanjiro and his companions receive an urgent order from the Demon Slayer Corps and head for a strange, ominous mountain where something has gone wrong—Mount Natagumo. Conditions on the mountain are far more dangerous than expected: the Demon Slayer Corps members who entered ahead of them are nearly wiped out by the spider demons, and along the way a twisted, heterogeneous demon clan that calls one another "family"—the Spider Family—gradually reveals itself. Tanjiro and Inosuke fight side by side in this battle, each pushed to new limits. The volume continues the Taisho-era setting, in which the young Kamado Tanjiro fights with the Demon Slayer Corps to restore his demon-turned sister Nezuko to human form; this volume focuses on the gathering of companions and the beginning of the Mount Natagumo arc.
