Series
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a shonen manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump and set in Japan's Taisho era: young Tanjiro Kamado's family is slaughtered by demons, and his only surviving sister, Nezuko, is turned into a demon. To restore her humanity and avenge his family, Tanjiro joins the demon-hunting organization the Demon Slayer Corps and, alongside his companions Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira, sets out to slay demons, drawing ever closer to Muzan Kibutsuji, the progenitor of all demons. Volume 18 corresponds to the 18th collected volume, "Nostalgic Assault" (Kaikyū Kyōshū). This volume continues the fierce battles leading up to the "Infinity Castle": Tanjiro and Giyu Tomioka confront Upper Rank Three, Akaza, and can only hold their ground against his overwhelming strength; in the life-or-death struggle, Tanjiro enters the "Transparent World" that his father, Tanjuro Kamado, once taught him, and tries to make his blade truly reach Akaza. Meanwhile, the volume continues to lay out the overall war between the Demon Slayer Corps and the Upper Ranks, building momentum for the final battle with Muzan. This is the 18th volume of the 23-volume series and an unskippable mid-arc battle section; new readers should start from Volume 1.

Summary

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a shonen manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump. Set in Japan's Taisho era, it follows young Tanjiro Kamado, whose family is slaughtered by demons and whose only surviving sister, Nezuko, is turned into one. To restore her humanity and avenge his family, Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps and, alongside his companions Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira, sets out on a path of demon-slaying that gradually brings him closer to Muzan Kibutsuji, the progenitor of all demons.

Volume 18 corresponds to the eighteenth collected volume, "Nostalgic Onslaught." Picking up the fierce battle leading into the Infinity Castle arc, it pits Tanjiro and Giyu Tomioka against Upper Rank Three, Akaza. Facing his overwhelming strength, the two can do little but hold their ground; in the midst of their life-and-death struggle, Tanjiro enters the "Transparent World," a state his father, Tanjuro Kamado, once taught him, and strives to make his blade truly reach Akaza. The volume also continues to lay out the broader war between the Demon Slayer Corps and the Upper Ranks, building momentum for the final confrontation with Muzan.

This is the eighteenth of twenty-three volumes, a mid-arc battle installment that should not be skipped; new readers are advised to begin with Volume 1.

Editor's review

Who it's for

A good fit for

Not a good fit for

Reading tips

FAQ
