The Strain comic is adapted from the vampire trilogy of the same name co-written by director Guillermo del Toro and novelist Chuck Hogan, scripted by David Lapham, drawn by Mike Huddleston, and published by Dark Horse Comics. The story begins with a passenger plane landing at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport: more than two hundred passengers on board have died mysteriously, and CDC epidemiologist Dr. Ephraim Goodweather leads a team aboard to investigate, finding only four survivors and a black wooden box shaped like a coffin. The dead then revive in the morgue, and a parasitic virus spread by white worms rapidly propagates, turning people into monsters obedient to the Master. Goodweather joins forces with Abraham Setrakian, a Nazi concentration camp survivor and pawnshop owner, and together with a rat catcher, gangsters, and other outsiders they form a resistance squad to fight this ancient evil spreading like an epidemic through a New York increasingly overrun. This volume is the sixth installment of the first part of The Strain comic, in the "The Strain" phase, continuing the virus spread and investigation threads, a transitional link in the trilogy's main storyline. The work reimagines vampire legend through a biological lens, with a cold, realistic art style and a high level of horror; recommended for readers aged 16 and up.
