The Chronicle of Xiaoyou

The Chronicle of Xiaoyou is a classical xianxia novel by the web author Xuehong, inheriting the worldview of Evil Wind Song and Ode to the Witch and echoing their later threads. The story begins in Guihua City on the northwestern frontier of the Great Yuan Kingdom: Lin Xiao, son of Lin Shan, master of the Huichun Hall, is a youth caught in clan strife when a sudden catastrophe upends his life—demon bandits breach the barrier and slaughter the city, the Huichun Hall and the Daluo Pill Dao fall, and Lin Xiao barely survives as one of the few left alive. He then pursues the culprits behind the massacre while searching for his beloved senior sister Yao'er, embarking on a long journey of vengeance and the pursuit of the Dao. Making his name through alchemy, he revives the tradition from Huichun Valley, improves pill formulas, refines elixirs, and navigates between fellow disciples and the great sects, steadily building strength and reputation; through a troubled age, campaigns across the star domains, and strife in the divine realm, he rises from the son of a common herbal merchant to ever higher cultivation. With alchemy as its backbone and chivalry as its soul, the book centers on obsession and reunion, vengeance and reconciliation, blending passionate trials with jianghu warmth. It marks Xuehong's transition from his early wild style to more deliberately plotted writing. Note that the 2009 print edition from International Culture Publishing Company is an abridged version covering the opening through the Shen Family Fort and Huichun Valley arc, not the full web serial; the Qidian serialization runs over four hundred chapters, about 2.2 million characters.
