This is Volume 9 of the 14-Year-Old series (Traditional Chinese complete edition: 14-Year-Old Complete Edition). 14-Year-Old is a long horror-science-fiction manga by the Japanese cartoonist Kazuo Umezu, serialized in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits from 1990 to 1995; it is also his last full-length work and is often regarded as a spiritual sequel to his representative work Drifting Classroom. The story is set in the twenty-second century: behind humanity's apparent prosperity, the crisis of extinction is closing in step by step. In the culture tanks of a chicken-processing factory, mutated meat with eyes appears and eventually grows into Chicken George, a being with a chicken's head and a human body possessed of extraordinarily high intelligence. George quickly masters all human knowledge and also learns a terrible prophecy: the children born that year will bring about the end of humanity and the Earth when they turn fourteen. From this starting point, anomalies appear one after another across the world: green babies are born around the globe, plants and animals wither abnormally, social order collapses amid disaster, and governments secretly plan to evacuate a portion of the children. The story follows how destruction descends step by step, and amid scenes of bloody and absurd crisis, it asks about humanity's plunder of nature, the bonds and separations between parents and children, and the fundamental questions of what the Earth is and what humanity is. This is Volume 9 of the series; for specific plot details, please refer to the original book.
