Black Sun XIII is a classic espionage comic series created by Belgian writer Jean Van Hamme (J. Van Hamme) and artist William Vance (W. Vance). Originally titled XIII in French and serialized from 1984, the Chinese edition was brought out by Northern Women and Children Publishing House and released in 12 volumes. The story centers on a man with amnesia: he wakes in a seaside cabin with nothing but a "XIII" mark and a bank key, his memory a blank, and is immediately hunted by heavily armed men; as he flees, he discovers he has skilled combat and shooting instincts. To find out "who I am," he is forced into a vast conspiracy woven by senior American politicians and the intelligence apparatus, drawing ever closer to the truth amid pursuit and counter-pursuit. This is Volume 4 of the series, titled Suicide Squad in Chinese, corresponding to the original fourth volume SPADS. After the first three volumes uncover clues to the protagonist's identity and the various factions begin to contend around him, the story enters a tenser phase of investigation and alliance-building: a group of characters with deep ties to special forces enter the scene, and the protagonist seeks a way to survive in a situation where friend and foe are hard to tell apart. The individual volumes are short and the plot depends on what came before, so reading in order is recommended.

如果你玩过育碧的《杀手代号十三》，却不知道它改编自一部欧洲老牌漫画，那么这套《黑太阳XIII》值得专门找来翻一翻。它诞生于1984年，是编剧范阿姆与画家万斯合作的代表作，一手写实线条、明亮而克制的大片设色，带着欧洲“写实连环画”特有的干净质感；不少中国读者第一次看到时，会惊讶于它与中国传统连环画的亲缘感。故事的钩子极为干脆：一个人失去记忆，只有肩上“XIII”的纹身和一把钥匙，然后枪声就响了。此后十二册里，身份、背叛、政治阴谋层层翻转，节奏像冷战谍报片。需要提醒的是，这是2002—2003年的老版引进书，16开平装、铜版纸印刷，纸张和色彩难免留下岁月痕迹，市面多为旧书，品相参差；分册只有数十页，剧情衔接紧，单看一册容易“断在半路”。它更适合想收藏一套纸质旧版、乐于接受老印刷品质的读者，而不是追求全新精装或单册独立成篇的人。
