Summary
This is volume 19 of Rurouni Kenshin: Complete Edition, collecting the climax of the original "Jinchū" arc. In the Kamiya Dōjō, shrouded in a blood mist of hatred and obsession, the avenger Enishi Yukishiro has carried out what he calls "Jinchū," and the hellish scene before Kenshin Himura, along with the "punishment" left by the assassin of old, is revealed one by one in the direction pointed to by the scent of white plum. In this volume the story forces Kenshin to confront the killing he did in the Bakumatsu and the deep grudge between him and Enishi's family. A wanderer who has sworn never to kill must answer anew, with friends and loved ones drawn into the matter, whether he can still wield a sword and for whom. As a pivotal volume in the middle-to-late series, it is both a turning point in the "Jinchū" arc and a setup for the work's ultimate theme of redemption. Note that this is volume 19 of the series, with content not repeated in other volumes; readers should follow the volume order of the Complete Edition.
Editor's review
Who it's for
A good fit for
Not a good fit for
Reading tips
FAQ
