Nova Vol. 30

Summary
Nova is the fifth volume of Marvel's Nova series, launched in 2013 and the first solo series to star the new Nova, Sam Alexander, after Richard Rider; the series ran 31 issues in total. Sam was originally an unremarkable middle-school student in a small Arizona town, his father missing for years and leaving behind only an odd helmet and a pile of Nova Corps stories dismissed as drunken talk. Once he puts on the helmet he truly becomes Nova, learning under the guidance of Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, and others to fly, manipulate energy, and bear responsibility for guarding the galaxy, and later joining the Avengers and taking part in events such as Original Sin, Axis, and Black Vortex. In the later part of the series, Gerry Duggan took over as writer and the story's focus shifted from cosmic adventure back to Earth and family. This volume is issue #30 of the series, part 2 of the "A Sort of Homecoming" arc following Black Vortex: Sam has returned to Earth, but trouble comes back with him, and this arc tests him more severely than any trial before.
Editor's review
