Mockingbird Vol. 2

This volume is the second in the Mockingbird series by Chelsea Cain with artist Kate Niemczyk, originally titled Mockingbird Vol. 2: My Feminist Agenda, collecting Mockingbird (2016) #6–8 plus New Avengers (2010) #13–14. The story picks up where Volume 1 left off: S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and former Avenger Barbara "Bobbi" Morse boards a theme cruise ship on a "classified mission" to find favorable evidence for her old friend and ex-husband Clint Barton, who is caught up in a Civil War II lawsuit. The ship turns out to be a floating superhero fan convention, and a thousand cosplayers, a crowd of cape-wearing colleagues she had hoped to avoid, an ex-boyfriend who keeps appearing at awkward moments, and a pack of rampaging corgis send the trip completely off the rails. When a passenger is murdered aboard, Bobbi must play Hercule Poirot, hunting the culprit while confronting a past she would rather not touch. And as the ship drifts toward the Bermuda Triangle, she must face a "ghost" from her own past. The backup New Avengers #13–14, written by Brian Michael Bendis, tells a life-or-death New Avengers adventure involving Mockingbird. The book continues the series' brisk, witty, and playful style, using Bobbi's monologues and numerous infographic sidebars to showcase the intelligence and self-deprecation of this "super-spy scientist."
