Vote Loki #1

Vote Loki is a four-issue miniseries released by Marvel from June to August 2016, written by Christopher Hastings and drawn by Langdon Foss and Paul McCaffrey. This volume is issue #1 of the series (published June 15, 2016), and the story takes place during the 2016 U.S. election. Daily Bugle reporter Nisa Contreras goes to cover a presidential candidate debate but notices that the credentials of many reporters at the scene are off—these people are actually HYDRA operatives. In the chaos, a man claiming to be a BuzzFeed reporter named "Lucas" reveals his true identity: Loki, god of lies and mischief. He easily subdues the attackers and then announces to the cameras that he will enter the race as a candidate for President of the United States. Loki makes a striking entrance, declaring that both existing candidates are liars and that if he were in office, at least he would lie to your face honestly. This outrageous statement unexpectedly sparks a "Draft Loki" movement, with supporters arguing that since all politicians are untrustworthy, why not elect someone who openly admits to lying. Nisa, meanwhile, remains suspicious that Loki is only in it for power, and her investigation and questioning form the narrative throughline of the series. This volume is the opening of the four-issue series, mainly setting up the occasion for Loki's candidacy, his sparring with the media, and the reporter Nisa's doubts, with a strong flavor of political satire and dark humor.
