Superboy #17

This issue is the twelfth part of the "H'el on Earth" crossover event and the final chapter of that event in the Superboy series, subtitled "Lost Cause!" H'el activates the Star Chamber beneath the Fortress of Solitude, drawing the sun's energy through kryptonite crystals; solar flares and global climate anomalies already appear in NASA's observational data. Superman, Wonder Woman, and Superboy resolve to destroy the Star Chamber, while the Flash asks Batman and Cyborg to assist in global rescue efforts. H'el finds the three, tears off the Superman armor sustaining Superboy's genetic structure, causing him to rapidly disintegrate, then returns the armor to Superman so he may retain his final dignity before death. Hurled away, Superboy rises again as his body keeps dissolving, and on the way encounters the Herald. The Herald tells him that if he survives today, he may become a force that shapes the fate of countless worlds. The Herald then departs and reports to his master at the universe's edge, the Oracle, saying five "anomalies" capable of upsetting the cosmic balance have been detected on Earth. Superboy crosses the micro black holes that keep appearing as the timestream is torn open and races toward the Star Chamber; Supergirl blocks his path, pouring out all her resentment toward the clone. Wonder Woman arrives in time, and Superboy rises for a last effort to save the planet that denied him.
