Demon Prison

Demon Prison is a xianxia cultivation web novel by Zaohua Zhaizhu, serialized on Qidian and Chuangshi Chinese from November 2013 and completed in 2016, with a total of about 3.689 million characters. The story is set in the Nine Provinces at the approach of the Dharma-Ending Age: the qi of the Five Declines fills heaven and earth, the great barrier of the Nine Provinces teeters, outer-realm demons lurk and plot in secret, and undercurrents stir between the orthodox sects and the demonic ones. The protagonist, Luo Feng, is a product of the Supreme Sect's "human creation plan," a failed experiment in the Supreme Forgetting-Emotion Dao Body who can only hide emotion, not truly forget it; born with a lowly fate and burdened by the bloodline curse of the Spirit-Eye clan, he is regarded as a good-for-nothing with no future, raised by a disciple expelled from the sect. By chance he receives, at the deathbed of Elder Xueyuan of the Guixu Sect, the demonic sect's cardinal scripture, within which dwells a talkative book spirit. Luo Feng then joins the demonic Six Paths Sect and, surrounded by tigers and wolves amid a gathering of the wicked, maneuvers among the various factions with a clear head, cool calculation of interests, and a way of acting that never crosses his bottom line. He practices demonic texts such as The Record of Ten Thousand Slaughter and the Execution of Evils, follows the path of triple cultivation, ascends step by step through the nine realms of the flesh and the nine tiers of heaven and man, and ultimately witnesses the ten great dao including Nirvana and Life-and-Death. The book takes "purity emerges from filth, light is born from darkness" as its core proposition, depicting how a man on the demonic path keeps his true heart in a foul place, turning "demon" from an identity into a method rather than an end.
