Summary
Qingdi is a classical xianxia novel by the web author Jing Kesou, serialized on Chuangshi Chinese Network starting August 1, 2013. The complete work spans approximately 6.35 million characters across 2,058 chapters and concluded in June 2016. The protagonist, Ye Qing, is a graduate student of archaeology on Earth who transmigrates into the world of Qingdi, becoming a lowly concubine-born son of the Ye clan whose family resources are managed by others and who is treated with cold neglect. After perishing during a great calamity that overturns heaven and earth, he is reborn fifteen years before the catastrophe. Guided by memories of his past life and instructed by a Confucian classic, Ye Qing retreads the path of cultivation: he studies Daoist arts, forges alliances with mountain gods, ventures into the Dragon Palace, and engages in open and covert struggles with various factions for innate opportunities and qi fortune. He participates in the imperial examinations and court politics, rising from a commoner to gradually build his own power base and blessed domain. The novel integrates the Daoist system of the Five Elements and Five Virtues with the examination system and the celestial bureaucracy's order of enfeoffment, constructing a world where Daoist arts manifest, the Heavenly Court and the imperial court govern jointly, and the Five Emperors rotate in succession. The story encompasses clan infighting, contests over qi fortune, and feudal lords' state-building, as well as planar warfare and civilizational rivalry against invading otherworldly civilizations. The main thread follows Ye Qing's step-by-step rise to ultimately attain the Dao and become one of the Five Emperors—the Qing Emperor. Known for its energy-conservation-style cultivation worldview and the premise that "whoever gains qi fortune gains the world," the work is a representative of the qi-fortune and dynastic-cultivation subgenres of xianxia, and in 2017 it was selected for the 2016 China Online Novel Rankings in the completed works category.
Editor's review

FAQ
