The Cunning Thorn is a full-length military novel by the online author Fenwu Yaoji (real name Dong Qun), written after Bullet Scars and published by Yunnan People's Publishing House in April 2010 as the opening work of the Moxie Books "New Weapons" series. The story is again set against the backdrop of the Fifth Special Unit. The protagonist, Feng Yinglou, comes from a military family; as a boy he was timid, often beaten by his father and bullied by classmates, yet he valued loyalty above all. After entering an elite training school, he remained the hardest-working and most relentless trainee, though his scores repeatedly ranked at the bottom; it was precisely this unyielding tenacity that caught the eye of a mentor, who sent him to the mysterious Fifth Unit.
