Green Arrow #44

This is issue #44 of Green Arrow (Vol. 5, 2011–2016) from DC's New 52 era, titled "Secret of the Wolf" and released on September 2, 2015. The story is set in Seattle: Oliver Queen brings his half-wolf pet George to a date, and his date Kyra, suspicious of Oliver's many evasions, takes him into a fortune-telling shop in Pike Place Market. The warty-faced old woman who in the previous arc stood on the street proclaiming the "Nightbirds" prophecy now serves as a pet psychic, recounting to the two of them the secret history of George's origins: the frozen village of Burns, an ancient man-and-beast tale entangled with a wolf pack and the Bone Hunters cult, and a magic axe made from a demon's jawbone. After the psychic finishes, George turns out to carry only the bloodline of "a dog," and the date ends badly; Oliver is then attacked by the Bone Hunters cult, because his dog's bones are exactly what the cult wants. At the critical moment, a Mexican heroine from Juárez wielding a web gun—Tarantula, in the first appearance of the new Catalina Flores version—bursts in, saves Oliver, and asks for his help: her cousin has been kidnapped by the Bone Hunters. This issue is the second interlude of the "Nightbirds" storyline, part of the run written by Benjamin Percy with Patrick Zircher as lead artist, and it sets up the later "Bone Hunters" arc. This is a 32-page single issue, rated Teen.
