Catwoman #12

This volume is issue #12 of Catwoman (The New 52, Catwoman Vol. 4), titled, loosely, "It's Nice to Have Someone I Can Rely On," and it is the closing chapter of the "Dollhouse" arc. Selina Kyle witnesses a group of street youths and prostitutes being abducted, and Detective Carlos Alvarez, who was conducting surveillance at the scene, is taken as well. Her fence, Gwen Altamont, calls, but Selina has no time to listen closely. Her associate Spark urges her to pull back and lie low, but Selina refuses to let go; instead she has Spark break into GCPD headquarters, swap the Bat-Signal for a "Cat-Signal," and leave a phone behind so Batman can track her. Selina follows the trail to the Dollhouse mansion and fights the mad adversary who turns living people into "dolls," moving through rooms full of dolls and searching for the kidnapped children. At the critical moment the Batmobile crashes through the wall; Batman saves Alvarez and the children, and Dollhouse escapes in the chaos. Afterward, in her bathtub, Selina asks herself whether being a good person "in a white hat" really suits her. The volume's other blow falls on her "teammate": Gwen, discovering Spark's ties to corrupt officers, executes him herself and thanks the Penguin, who hints that the favor will be repaid. In a single issue, Selina both touches the cost of doing good and loses someone she thought she could rely on.
