Kick-Ass 2 #5

Summary
Kick-Ass 2 #5 continues the tragic turn of the previous issue: Dave Lizewski's (Kick-Ass's) father has been arrested after being mistaken for "Kick-Ass" and is held at Rikers Island. In this issue, Dave visits his father, who tells him to hide at a friend's house, not go home, and not go to school, lest he face retaliation. Meanwhile, the Red Mist, now calling himself "Motherf**ker," is building his secret lair but learns from "Uncle Vic" (Detective Gigante) that the NYPD has fully banned masked vigilantes and will no longer provide him with protection. The Red Mist therefore decides to escalate: he does not know where Kick-Ass is hiding, but he does know where Kick-Ass's father is. Dave then receives a photo at his friend's house showing his father bound, beaten, and hanged, and his identity is thus exposed to the public. The Justice Forever team, after being released, goes to the funeral to pay respects, and the Red Mist's gang declares a ceasefire during the funeral. At the funeral itself, the Red Mist's gang suddenly opens fire on the crowd with submachine guns and blows up the coffin; Hit-Girl (Mindy) intervenes in time and saves Dave. The issue ends with a single image: Hit-Girl firing at a horde of enemies, formally opening the curtain on the final showdown.
Editor's review

Reading tips

FAQ
