Kick-Ass 2 is the sequel to Kick-Ass by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., serialized from 2010 to 2012 under Marvel's Icon imprint. The story picks up directly from the first volume: high-school student Dave Lizewski, trained by Hit-Girl Mindy, gradually turns from a rookie who takes beatings into a vigilante who can genuinely fight; meanwhile, costumed imitators multiply across the city, and Dave is drawn into an organization that calls itself a superhero team, meeting a group of "vigilante colleagues" with varied backgrounds—former mob enforcers, a retired policeman, ordinary people obsessed with comics. His old enemy Chris, the "Red Mist," is also quietly gathering strength, preparing to strike back under a more extreme identity. This volume is Kick-Ass 2 #2, focusing on Dave's first entry into this larger vigilante circle, learning one by one the absurd and scarred origin stories of his teammates, and joining the team's first group operation, as a boy who once fought alone experiences for the first time what "organized violence" tastes like. The book continues the series' style of realism, profanity, and bloodshed, using exaggerated passages to satirize the superhero myth while putting growth, responsibility, and cost plainly on the table.
