Han Hero

Han Hero is a long-form historical time-travel novel by Qiannian Longwang l. It began serialization on Qidian on July 1, 2014, and concluded on December 1, 2018, running to 972 chapters and about 2.73 million Chinese characters in the History category's "Qin, Han, and Three Kingdoms" section. Set during the reigns of Emperor Jing and Emperor Wu of the Western Han, the story follows the protagonist Yun Xiao, a modern man with backgrounds in mechanical design and literature and experience as a wilderness expedition leader. After touching a glowing stone, he travels back to before the Common Era through something like a "wormhole," his body reverting to youth, and lands on the Ordos grasslands surrounded by Xiongnu forces. With limited modern gear (such as a sawed-off double-barreled shotgun and a lighter) and knowledge beyond his era, he struggles to survive among wolves and Xiongnu tribesmen, then encounters frontier generals such as Li Guang and gradually establishes himself through salt-making, improving tools, and training troops. The story then moves from the frontier to Chang'an, where he becomes entangled in the political upheavals of the Jing and Wu reigns—the reduction of vassal states, suppression of powerful clans, and state monopolies on salt and iron—and crosses paths with historical figures such as Zhou Yafu, Dou Ying, Wei Qing, and Zhang Tang. The novel does not culminate in kingship or hegemony; instead, it has the protagonist improve farm tools, weapons, and fiscal organization with an engineer's mindset, holding fast to integrity amid the shifts of imperial power. Its tone is passionate and weighty, repeatedly stressing that "there is no difference between the wronged souls beneath the saber and the pride in the saddle," asserting that the people of Han must not be bullied by anyone, with its theme resting on the four words "the great Han rises."
