Mother Queen

Mother Queen is a long science-fiction novel by the web author Wandering Toad (Liulang de Hama), serialized on Qidian's science-fiction channel from September 2007 under the "evolution and mutation" genre. The protagonist, Luo Yanqi, is an Earth homebody who studied all the way to a doctorate, only to be abducted at the moment of job-hunting by an alien civilization and used as a human test subject. When the experiment fails, the aliens cannot send him back to Earth, cannot take him to their homeworld, and will not silence him, so they give him a "Mother Queen" egg as compensation and release him on a strange planet whose intelligent life closely resembles humans. The Mother Queen is the pinnacle of biotech: once hatched, it can evolve itself into forms such as spacecraft and fortresses, mass-cultivate humanoid, beast-form, and plant-form bio-beasts, and design new unit templates based on the knowledge and conditions of its world. The novel's main line follows Luo Yanqi's hard survival on a world called Thunderclap Continent where magic and technology coexist, relying on this Mother Queen egg: from underground bases and the Shanpa Ruins to Moonlight Town, the Great Crimson Empire, and Titan Dragon City, he is gradually drawn into the conflicts among the continent's factions and civilized ruins, accumulating resources and expanding power until he finally builds ships and sails into space, aiming to go home and clashing with many interstellar civilizations. The book is narrated in the first person, blending black humor with otaku-culture humor, and is regarded as one of the pioneering works of the "swarm-building" (explosive-army) genre in Chinese web literature; the completed work runs about 688,400 characters in 297 chapters, later divided into volumes including "Gods and Ghosts Descend," "A Homebody's Tale of Ambition," "Riding the Dragon of Nine Heavens," "Shining Morning Star," "Fleet Commander," "Burning Planet," "Heir of Wisdom," "Heavenly Martial Tournament," "North Galactic Alliance," and "Starship Civilization."
