The Law of Ueki, Vol. 5

The Law of Ueki is a shonen manga by Tsubasa Fukuchi, serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday and collected in 16 volumes. The story follows Kosuke Ueki, a first-year student at Hinokuni Middle School, who receives a strange power from his homeroom teacher, Mr. Kobayashi, a candidate god from the heavenly realm: he can turn anything he considers trash into a tree. This power is part of a vast tournament—one hundred candidate gods each choose a middle school student and grant them a power to fight with; the candidate god represented by the final winner becomes the next god, and the winning student receives the Blank Talent, the ability to choose any talent at will. At the same time, power users must pay for their abilities with their own talents, and the talents they lose can be regained one by one by defeating opponents. Ueki enters the fight with the conviction of upholding justice. This volume is the fifth in the series, continuing the storyline in which Ueki clashes with powerful enemies such as the Robert Ten. Due to limited source material, the specific plot of this volume is not recounted here in detail; reading the volumes in order is recommended to follow the continuing story.
