The Law of Ueki Vol. 15

Volume 15 of The Law of Ueki is a key installment as Tsubasa Fukuchi's supernatural school battle manga approaches its end. The main story follows junior high student Kosuke Ueki, who is granted the power to turn anything he considers trash into trees by his homeroom teacher, Kobayashi, a candidate for the godhood. He is drawn into an elimination tournament in which one hundred god candidates each choose a junior high student as their proxy to compete for the throne of the next god. The winning student receives a "blank talent" that can be filled with any ability; whenever a power user harms an ordinary person with their power, they lose one "talent," and when all talents are gone, the person disappears. This volume continues the final battle of the third selection round: Team Ueki versus the celestial army's Team Pallow. In a best-of-three format, the score reaches one win and one loss, and the third match has Ueki's companion Ai Mori face the genius Gill Norton, reputed to have an IQ of 179. The battle with Pallow concludes here, but an abnormal turn of events occurs in this fight to decide the god's throne, setting the stage for the final selection round to come. The series has 16 volumes in total; this is volume 15 and is best read in order.
