Summary

Cases is a business case reader edited and compiled under the direction of financial writer Wu Xiaobo, published by Zhejiang People's Publishing House as part of the Blue Lion Finance Series: Notable Chinese Companies Case Series. Taking the business practices of Chinese domestic enterprises since reform and opening up as its subject, the book works through groups of company cases to sort out what firms actually did, and what they gained and lost, in brand management, market competition, the contest for talent, cross-border acquisitions, and business model innovation, attempting a middle path between news-style writing and standardized business school case studies: it keeps the immediacy and readability of storytelling while offering some analytical framework, so that readers can see transferable business logic in the choices of specific companies. Topics include how domestic firms cope with foreign competition, how a brand turns from localization to internationalization, the contest between star managers and shareholders, and how new technologies and new models disrupt the established industry landscape. As a series reader, it lends itself to reading by topic, works as both an introduction and a step up for business reading, and has been regarded as a supplementary text for MBA education in China.

Editor's review

Reading tips

FAQ
