Starfire Vol. 1

This volume is issue #1 of DC Comics' 2015 solo series Starfire. The protagonist, Koriand'r—Starfire, princess of Tamaran—was once a member of the Red Hood and the Outlaws team, and now leaves her old comrades to live on Earth alone. She lands on Key West in Florida, tells the local female sheriff, Stella, about her troubled past, and states her wish: to live, work, and make friends like an ordinary person rather than be a walking weapon. With Stella's help, she pawns gems accumulated during her interstellar travels for living expenses, stops a brawl in a bar, changes into everyday clothes, settles into an RV park, and tries to get along with an elderly neighbor woman and her young grandson. Just as everything seems to be on track, weather alerts keep escalating, a hurricane approaches the island, residents are forced to evacuate, and Starfire, whose new life has only just begun, is swept into the storm. This volume is issue #1 of the series, written by the Harley Quinn creative team of Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti, drawn by Emanuela Lupacchino, and reimagines this alien princess in a light, humorous, slice-of-life tone; it received generally positive reviews.
