Reading tips

About the author
Junji Ito is a Japanese horror manga artist born in 1963 in Gifu Prefecture. He once worked as a dental technician and made his debut in 1987 by winning the Kazuo Umezu Award, gradually becoming one of the leading figures in Japanese horror manga. His representative works include Tomie, Uzumaki, and Gyo. Known for their eerie, meticulously detailed art and escalating psychological horror, his works often twist everyday settings into unsettling anomalies. Many have been adapted into films and anime, and he has a wide readership overseas. In 2025 he was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Awards Hall of Fame. The library holds his book Junji Ito's Manga Technique: Where Horror Is Born, categorized under general biography, which explores his creative experience and the formation of his horror aesthetic and serves as an accessible introduction to his manga philosophy.
