Summary

The Cocoon of Salvation is a sci-fi battle manga by Daisuke Moriyama, creator of Chrono Crusade. It ran in Shonen Gahosha's Young King OURs from 2005 to 2014, totaling 97 chapters collected in 13 tankobon volumes. The traditional Chinese edition was published by Chang Hong Press, translated by Wu Jialing. The story begins in a world full of lies. Riku Amami, a cold-natured boy given to lying, one day receives an email and a photo from his sister Amane, who was supposed to have died two years earlier; following the hospital in the photo, he steps into another world beyond the everyday. There are the Coffin Guardians, parasites that ride mobile phone signals and turn people into savage monsters; there are the Blade Banner wielders who fight them with special weapons called Blade Banners; and there is a mysterious cocoon from which hatches Nana, an infant girl identical to Amane as a child. Lost memories, his sister's strange death, monsters that devour memory, and the Coffin Princess who governs the succession of species draw Riku into a vortex far beyond his personal fate. He inherits the Blade Banner core left by Yohei Takebe, becomes a Blade Banner wielder, and while protecting Nana, maneuvers among F.L.A.G., the Coffin Princess, and the infection source, gradually closing in on the truth of why humanity is being parasitized and what salvation actually means. The misalignment of memory and identity and the conflict between family bonds and mission give the work a heavier dark-fantasy atmosphere than typical shonen battle manga. This volume is the 13th and final volume of the series, where the threads of 97 chapters converge: the choices made by Nana, Reina, and Riku Amami, and the final outcome of the battle against the infection source and the Coffin Princess are all resolved in this closing volume—though the specifics should be taken as presented in the book.

Editor's review

Who it's for

A good fit for

Not a good fit for

Reading tips

FAQ
