Summary
Flicking Finger Song is a wuxia novel by the web author Er Tijiao. It began serialization on Qidian Chinese Network on June 12, 2009, and was completed on October 31, 2010, totaling about 1.54 million characters. It is the second installment of the "Sword-Bearing Series." The story takes place two years after the ending of Sword-Bearing Oath, and its content is relatively standalone. The Central Plains martial world has long enjoyed peace, and the covert struggles among the Ten Great Sects are on the verge of erupting. The youth Tang Yi flees with his sick mother and takes shelter under the patronage of his father's sworn brother Feng Qian, his fate plagued by misfortune because of his unusual red eyes. While escorting supplies out of the pass, he encounters bandits from Wanma Hall. Feng Qian dies saving him, and Tang Yi, trying to save Feng Qian's son Feng Ping, sinks into quicksand and by chance falls into an underground waterway, where he is rescued by Tang Bing, the younger brother of the Tang Sect master. After escaping the desert and returning to Pingliang, Feng Ping conspires with others to falsely accuse him of colluding with the bandits, and his mother dies in grief and resentment. Tang Yi kills Feng Ping in a rage and is abducted to Mount Kongtong. Thereafter he travels with the miraculous physician Liu Buheng to the Tang Sect in Shu, where he is taken notice of because of his red eyes, and he maneuvers step by step within the sect, seeking only to clear his name. The work centers on hidden weapons, expressing the jianghu philosophy that "hidden weapons, too, can be open and honorable; hidden weapons, too, can be dazzling and elegant." It weaves in such elements as the Sword God Chart of the Ten Thousand Swords Sect, the Shaolin Sword Relic, and the Wudang Big Dipper Taiji Formation. All chapter titles are written to ci-pai patterns, and the poems and songs in the book are all original to the author, presenting an authentic jianghu order and sect structure.
Editor's review
