Official Advancement

Official Advancement is an officialdom-themed online novel by Jue Wuxi, serialized on Qidian since 2012. It runs to four parts and 207 chapters, closing with the chapter "A Helpless Ending." The novel follows the career rise of its protagonist, Mu Jun: starting as a low-level township clerk, he is tempered through Dakuo Township and Dianyu County, learning on the job to balance policy implementation against the rules of officialdom, and gradually climbs to the level of district party secretary. Built on the premise of "a dream reflected into reality," the work depicts Mu Jun seizing the opportunities of fate and struggling through grassroots power contests and livelihood governance. Phrases such as "serve one term, benefit one region" and "no trivial matter in people's livelihood" recur throughout, while the title "Official Advancement" is given several interpretations by the author: a smooth official career, an unobstructed path of promotion, the protagonist's own conviction that "my road is in my hands," and the folk description of him as "a parent official recognized by the common people." Through numerous scenes of meetings, personnel matters, projects, and regional contests, the book presents the realistic ecology of grassroots officialdom and the survival rules of officials.
