Summary
This volume is issue #6 of the Nightcrawler series (2004–2006), the second and concluding part of the two-part story "Ghosts on the Tracks," titled "Voices of the Dead." The story takes place in the New York subway: a group of souls who died unjustly in a tunnel accident wreak havoc in the shadows, turning the subway system into a grim hunting ground. The mutant Kurt Wagner—Nightcrawler, the blue-skinned, long-tailed X-Man who can teleport—looks like a demon but has a gentle heart, making him the most fitting person to walk into this darkness. He follows clues to trace the ghosts' origins, trying to understand their unfinished business and find them rest, rather than simply driving them out or destroying them. The story combines urban legend, Gothic atmosphere, and Nightcrawler's faith and priestly temperament: he is both a warrior and someone willing to listen to the dead. This issue is written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and drawn by Darick Robertson, and was later collected in Nightcrawler Vol. 1: The Devil Inside.
