Nine Heavens

Nine Heavens is a xianxia web novel by Black Mountain Old Ghost, a star author on Yuewen Group’s Qidian platform, where it was first serialized and has now been completed. The story follows Fang Gui, a young man from Niutou Village who has always claimed descent from immortals: free-spirited and unruly, slick and flippant, yet never without a core of justice. A chance act of heroism in the wild—saving a beauty from danger—brings him face to face with traces of real immortals and draws him into the world of the immortal sects. Armed with a head full of wild schemes and a roguish, don’t-give-a-damn attitude, he snoops, bluffs, and wheedles his way into a cultivation method from the sect’s grasp, setting off on a path of cultivation that is both hilarious and hot-blooded. The novel carries on the author’s trademark light, comedic touch: the immortal sects are just as filthy as anywhere else, and old monsters, demons, and clowns take turns strutting onstage—but the protagonist refuses to play their game, and anyone who crosses him gets “slaughtered like a dog.” Immortal grace and earthy vitality coexist, the supporting cast is vividly alive, and the hero’s slightly thuggish brand of integrity is especially endearing. From the opening chapter, “A Hero or a Beauty?,” all the way to Chapter 785, “Reunion (Finale),” the book presents in full Fang Gui’s journey from a country boy to a contender who storms the nine heavens.
