Summary

Bu San is Feng Tang's first collection of short songs, published by People's Literature Publishing House in September 2018 with the subtitle "Short Songs." The book contains 269 short songs, each consisting of three lines arranged in a three-line poem format, totaling 319 pages. In this book, Feng Tang pushes poetry to its shortest: with less elaboration and less room for second thoughts, three lines land and image, emotion, and judgment are almost simultaneously complete. Starting from everyday details, he rediscovers, reimagines, and rewrites the relationships and meanings between things with a poet's acuity, making ordinary lived experience feel wondrous again. The writing continues his signature "raw, fresh, spicy" style, whether about love between men and women, about objects and seasons, or simply a flash of wit—readers may laugh, sigh, or curse, yet always suddenly become aware of their own vitality surging. The book's design is exceptionally spacious, with abundant white space and only a small amount of text per page, pushing visual presentation to the foreground, which some readers feel weakens the textual capacity. This small volume is more like a box of three-line servings: suitable for opening at random to read a few lines, and also suitable for reading from beginning to end on some night, then going back to pick out those three lines that made you pause.

Editor's review

Who it's for

A good fit for

Not a good fit for

Reading tips

FAQ
