The Tribulation of Myriad Clans is a long urban supernatural novel by the web novelist Lao Ying Chi Xiao Ji (Eagle Eating Chick), serialized on Qidian.com beginning in 2019, completed at roughly 8.33 million characters, and one of the representative works of Qidian's urban supernatural category. The story is set in a world where countless clans of the heavens stand arrayed and wage war on one another: the human race once flourished under the leadership of the first Human Sovereign, then gradually declined after the first Human Sovereign and the mighty of the myriad clans disappeared one after another, leaving humanity surrounded by hostile clans and in constant peril. The protagonist, Su Yu, comes from ordinary origins; by chance he obtains the "Album of Myriad Clans," which lets him analyze the talents and systems of the myriad clans and thus grow rapidly through the progressive cultivation tiers of Kaiyuan, Qianjun, Tengkong, and beyond. Starting from the Great Xia Prefecture, he enters the Academy of Civilization to study and repeatedly wins by wit in academy assessments, the Divine Script Contest, and contests over secret realms; he then moves through the Great Xia Prefecture, the Great Ming Prefecture, the human race's Thirty-Six Prefectures, and even the Heavenly Realm, contending with forces such as the Heavenly Gate, the Earth Gate, and the Prison King, uniting the human prefectures and some of the myriad clans to resist the danger of annihilation. The book's core declaration is "I am the tribulation of all the clans of the heavens," and it emphasizes fast pacing, dense payoffs, and intricate scheming, with an epic sense of a people's rise and fall. Stylistically, the protagonist is not a traditional righteous figure but a shrewd, pragmatic, calculating "strategist" type, which generates a great deal of intellectual maneuvering and plot reversals.
