Translucid is a six-issue superhero comic miniseries launched by BOOM! Studios in 2014, co-written by musician Claudio Sanchez (frontman of the progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria) and Chondra Echert, drawn by Daniel Bayliss, colored by Adam Metcalfe, and lettered by Ed Dukeshire. The story centers on New York City's only superhero, The Navigator: by day he is a teenage genius named Cornelius, who personally built the holographic technology that allows The Navigator to appear; his nemesis, The Horse, closes in from the shadows. The work is not content with good-versus-evil slugfests; it keeps asking where morality comes from and where the blurred line between good and evil lies—whether a hero is made by family trauma or chooses to become one. This volume is issue #4 of the series, subtitled Gone Daddy Gone, published July 16, 2014. This issue probes more deeply into The Navigator's troubled past: while The Navigator battles villains out in the world, Cornelius confronts his own demons and his family, and the conflict between Cornelius and his father escalates further. Meanwhile, The Navigator, having just accidentally harmed an innocent, falls into existential self-reflection, alone asking whether he still deserves the name of hero.
