Translucid is a six-issue limited series from BOOM! Studios by the writing duo Claudio Sanchez (frontman of the rock band Coheed and Cambria) and Chondra Echert, with art by Daniel Bayliss, described as a neon-hued psychological hallucination. This volume is issue #1 of the series, released in April 2014. The story is set in a New York without superpowers: a vigilante known as The Navigator has protected the city single-handedly for years, and his most persistent nemesis is The Horse. The two have fought for years, each giving the other a reason to exist. In issue #1, The Horse senses that The Navigator's moral compass is shifting—even a villain does not want to see his chosen adversary fall apart. To understand why this man became a hero, The Horse decides to delve into The Navigator's past buried deep in his subconscious, forcing him to confront the traumas and choices that shaped him. The work focuses not on fighting but on the symbiotic relationship between hero and villain: what makes one person choose selflessness and another choose selfishness. The first issue ends on a cliffhanger, laying the groundwork for later issues to reveal The Navigator's true origins.
