Summary

This book is one title in an e-book anthology, the "Classic English Novels Collection," and the entry is listed as "Alexander." Note that many works in the English-speaking world bear the name Alexander, including historical biographies (such as Jacob Abbott's Alexander the Great) and fictional narratives titled after or recalling an Alexander. This page therefore makes no definitive statement about the author, plot, or publication details. Among the verifiable classics most often given this title, the reference is chiefly to works by the French writer Alexandre Dumas (the elder); Dumas was a major figure of nineteenth-century Romantic literature, later hailed as "the king of popular fiction," and his works typically take real historical events as their backdrop and then elaborate them with bold invention and imagination — tightly plotted, quick-witted in dialogue, and crowded with characters, ideally suited to newspaper serialization, qualities that have kept them popular for over a century. The form included in this anthology is most likely the original English novel or an English translation. Before reading, check the title label, cover, copyright page, and opening pages of the file to confirm the actual title and author, distinguishing it where necessary from other works of the same name. This page describes only the anthology and the title itself, and does not speculate about specific plot, characters, or chapter arrangement.

Editor's review

Who it's for

A good fit for

Not a good fit for

Reading tips

FAQ

He is known for historical adventure novels such as The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo, and has been called the father of popular fiction.
