Cao Juren

Cao Juren (1900–1972) was a modern Chinese writer, scholar and journalist from Lanxi, Zhejiang. He taught at Shanghai University, Jinan University and Fudan University, and edited journals such as Taosheng and Mangzhong. During the War of Resistance Against Japan he served as a war correspondent for the Central News Agency, reporting on the battles of Shanghai and Taierzhuang. In 1950 he moved to Hong Kong, where he devoted himself to the cause of national reunification. His writings span journalism, scholarship and essays, and include A Critical Biography of Lu Xun, Fifty Years in the Literary World and A Record of Ten Thousand Miles. Seven of his works are held here, covering biography, literary appreciation and essays on literature and history. His plain, readable style combines historical sources with personal experience, making his work on Lu Xun and his recollections of the modern literary scene especially valuable for reference.
