Black Knight, Volume 2

This volume is the second in Marvel's Black Knight series (corresponding to the English original Black Knight 2015 issue 2, published December 2015, written by Frank Tieri, drawn by Luca Pizzari). After Secret Wars, Dane Whitman took up the title "Black Knight" passed down through his forebears, and with it the Ebony Blade handed down since the time of King Arthur. He once seized a domain in Weirdworld and became ruler of New Avalon; and the suspense of this volume revolves precisely around why he left Earth and became stranded in Weirdworld. At this point the Uncanny Avengers, who once fought alongside him, come calling: they want to reclaim the cursed sword, but Dane is unwilling to let it go. His past deeds, the sword's curse, and his ever-deepening dependence on the weapon are all brought before him at once. Sword and sorcery, old heroic comrades, and the pull of "a necessary addiction" form the main conflict of this volume. It should be noted that the English original of this series concluded after only five issues; the volume is compact and the story tightly interconnected, so it is best read alongside the preceding and following volumes to fully appreciate Dane Whitman's struggles and choices in the identity of the Black Knight.
