The Devil's Records

The Devil's Records is a long-form cultivation novel by Wang Yu, a platinum author on Qidian Chinese Network, written after A Record of the Mortal's Cultivation to Immortality. It began serialization on Qidian in November 2013, and in 2014 Nanjing University Press released a print edition (published in volumes under the series title A Record of the Mortal's Cultivation to Immortality II: The Devil's Records). The story opens with Liu Ming, a youth raised among countless cutthroats, exiled to a vicious island because of his father's crime and fleeing in panic when the island sinks. After escaping the Black Tiger Guard, he enters the Man Gui Sect under the name of Bai Congtian, a young man of the Bai family who died by accident, starting as an outer-sect spirit disciple with the mediocre aptitude of three spirit meridians. The spirit-opening rite is perilous, and sect missions and life-and-death trials come one after another; secret realms, demon beasts, demonic plants, and sect infighting intertwine as Liu Ming climbs step by step through forbearance and ruthless means. His path then stretches from the Yunchuan Continent to the Zhongtian Continent, the Wildlands Continent, and even the Demon Realm, where he clashes with the Sea Clan, the Ming Clan, and other powers, is drawn into the grand confrontation between humans and demons and the crisis of demonization, and ultimately reaches the realm of eternal life and ascends to the higher world. The book is vast in scope with a clear realm system, continuing the author's signature grassroots cultivation narrative of steady, step-by-step advance.
