The Ghost Path

The Ghost Path is a supernatural mystery web novel by Si Bu Xiang, a signed author on Motie Chinese Network, complete in three parts, 287 chapters, and roughly 897,000 characters. The story is told in the first person. The narrator is a surgeon who, out of greed, becomes entangled in illegal organ trafficking; after the scheme fails, he is murdered. Death does not end everything: his enemies not only escape punishment but live comfortably and turn their claws on his young fiancée. To protect the woman he loves and to obtain justice, he gives up the chance to be reborn and chooses to remain in the human world as a vengeful ghost, fighting criminal forces and all manner of evil spirits. The novel's world expands layer by layer, from The Yin-Yang Realm through The Realm of Malevolent Ghosts to The Demon Realm, unfolding amid the separation of yin and yang a range of folk supernatural elements—shamans, Daoist priests, ghost markets, zombies, tree spirits, door gods—with the protagonist's step-by-step "reforging of his spirit body," from weak to strong, as the main thread. Combining urban crime with supernatural folklore, tightly paced and highly satisfying, it is a typical first-person revenge-driven supernatural web novel.
