Ghost-Server Legion

Ghost-Server Legion is a long keyboard-MMO novel by Jinjiang author Yan Liangyu, serialized from January 2013 and completed in 2016, totaling about 1.18 million Chinese characters; a simplified Chinese print edition was later published by Changjiang Press under the title Wild-Server Guild. The story centers on the "Mirror Flower, Water Moon" server in the virtual MMO Huaxia: veteran players have all transferred away and new players no longer join, leaving it so deserted that it is jokingly called a "ghost server." The protagonist, Fang Zheng, is a game booster with the ID "Any Milk Will Do a Mother's Job," who refuses to leave out of attachment to the old server. A half-joking ambush brings him into contact with Polly (Meng Chudong), a PK master whose skills are sharp and whose tongue is sharper. The two go from mutual dislike to running dungeons together, and the team slowly grows, gathering a group of oddballs — a rich kid, students, a female player, and a luck-cursed unfortunates. Calling themselves the "Broken-Winged Angels," this ragtag crew forms the guild "Ghost-Server Legion." When the ghost server later merges with a top server, the players are pushed onto a bigger stage: cross-server competitions, dungeon first clears, forum interviews, alliances and rivalries with other guilds. The author depicts in-game skills, dungeon mechanics, team coordination, and player culture in meticulous detail, and uses chat-style humorous dialogue to sketch each member's personality; outside the game, Fang Zheng's shut-in life, body-image anxiety, and romantic confusion also progress, as the Ghost-Server Legion extends from the virtual world into reality and becomes a story of friendship and growth among ordinary people.
