Ghost Fate

Ghost Fate is a supernatural suspense novel by the web author No Shadow, serialized on Chuangshi Chinese Network from March 11, 2014, and completed on October 18, 2019, running 122 chapters and about 749,000 characters. The protagonist, Ajian, is born with the yin-yang eye, which a Taoist priest seals when he is five. The priest promises the seal will last only five or six years, and sure enough, at eleven the "eye" opens again: resentful spirits on the courtyard wall, fierce ghosts beneath the camphor tree, and a faceless woman in red begin to appear in his daily life. Told from Ajian's point of view, the story follows him from a child who can only see "things" and has no power to resist, as he is drawn into ever larger conflicts between yin and yang, encounters ghost-hunting clan leaders and spirit mediums, and comes to learn the rules of the underworld; the book combines standalone campus and urban tales with a through-line: why Ajian, of all people, and how he can escape this foreordained fate called "ghost fate." A side plot follows Guozi, who investigates supernatural incidents under the guidance of a faceless male ghost, echoing Ajian's main thread; at the end, in the Battle of the Guihuo Formation, the Shadow Ghost is destroyed and the main story concludes. The style leans toward traditional folk tales and campus horror, with delicate atmospheric description; it suits readers who like supernatural fiction for late-night reading, though the effect may be too strong, so proceed at your own discretion.
