Uncanny Avengers Vol. 5

This volume collects issue #5 of Uncanny Avengers Volume 2 (the 2015 relaunch) and serves as the closing chapter of the "Counter-Evolutionary" arc. In the earlier Axis event, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch learned that Magneto is not their biological father. Seeking the truth, the siblings travel to Counter-Earth and find the geneticist Herbert Wyndham, the High Evolutionary. The unity squad hastily assembled by Rogue—including Captain America Sam Wilson, Vision, Sabretooth, and Doctor Voodoo—follows them and is drawn into the conflict between the High Evolutionary and the creations he deems "defective." In this issue, Rogue confronts the High Evolutionary directly, and the Scarlet Witch comes to her aid with a hex bolt; Doctor Voodoo arrives for vengeance with the spirits of the Pain Council led by Donyell; the High Evolutionary's true "perfect daughter," Luminous, faces the Scarlet Witch head-on, and Vision ultimately sides with his old comrades, reaching into Luminous's skull. In the melee, the High Evolutionary abducts Rogue and Sabretooth and breaks away; Quicksilver pursues him and finally shatters his mask, seeing the ruined face beneath and admitting for the first time that he can no longer blame everything on being "Magneto's son." The High Evolutionary escapes through a portal with Luminous, leaving a warning that the "Evolution War" is coming. Days later, at Avengers Mansion, Vision deletes Eve's invitation and chooses to stay by Wanda's side.
