The Curse Across Generations

Summary
The Curse Across Generations is a suspense and supernatural novel by Kuangdao Chuqiao, serialized and completed on Motie Chinese Network. The story begins with the ordinary daily life of a typical university science student: alone at home during summer vacation, the bathtub fills itself though no one turned on the water; late at night, relentless knocking sounds at the door though no one is outside; bloody handprints with a foul smell appear on the door gap; a pair of a strange woman's red high heels materializes out of thin air in the room; a neighbor who died seven days ago shows up at the door late at night... A cascade of bizarre and irrational events shatters his peaceful life. The protagonist and his cousin investigate the source of these anomalies together, and the clues point to an old photograph obtained under strange circumstances, and to an incident from over twenty years ago when a group of people stood by and let someone die. The dead person's curse thus descends across generations. As the investigation deepens, the red patches on their bodies are identified as some kind of "mark," drawing in rumors of a Miao blood curse, strange insects and vines in underground caves, and an old research team at a cave on an island. The story gradually shifts from supernatural horror to a inquiry into identity and memory: Why is there a corpse identical to oneself in the cave? Are the living really who they think they are? The novel opens as an urban supernatural tale and escalates into cave exploration and a chain of puzzles about true and false identities, forming a tightly paced, eerily atmospheric long-form suspense work.
Editor's review

FAQ
