The Legend of Yanmo

The Legend of Yama is a fantasy novel by Yuzhai Yongshao, serialized in VIP format on Qidian Chinese Network. Approximately 795,000 characters long, it was completed in March 2023. The story unfolds on a otherworldly continent where the divine race reigns supreme: the Lunyue Cult holds a monopoly on the right to preach, and all other races can only submit to divine rule. The Book of Creation explicitly decrees that the gods created all things, and all things must devoutly make offerings to the gods; anyone who defies the divine way is regarded as a demonic scourge upon the world and executed without mercy. The protagonist, Chen Xi, is an orphaned outcast dismissed as worthless, yet the blood of the Yama clan flows in his veins. After obtaining the Yin Hong Sword, he faces a perilous choice—whether to practice the dangerous technique Devouring Spirits. His companion Jiang Feng hopes he will use it to continue the Yama royal bloodline and one day stand against the gods' reckoning; but should he fail in his practice, he could bleed from every orifice and die as his body bursts apart. Around the survival of his clan, the secrets of his identity, and the choice of power, Chen Xi advances step by step along the road of rebellion against divine authority, until he tears apart the silk scroll of The Book of Creation—the symbol of divine authority—and declares, "From this day forth, my Yama clan alone are gods." The work employs the orphan-underdog narrative framework, with racial conflict and the subversion of faith on a otherworldly continent as its main threads, interwoven with numerous characters such as the cat immortal Li Yan'er, Tang Liuyong, Fu Tianya, and the Qin family soldiers, as well as side plots involving city strife and guilds and academies. The style is passionate and tinged with light comedy, and the author makes heavy use of internet-savvy banter in chapter titles. Overall, it is a typical early Qidian work of the "Eastern fantasy · otherworldly continent" genre, suitable for readers familiar with and fond of this type of power-fantasy fiction to sample according to their interests.
