Iron Man #6 is the opening of "The Godkiller," the first standalone story arc of Iron Man Vol. 5 during the Marvel NOW! era, written by Kieron Gillen and drawn by Greg Land. In the preceding five issues of the "Believe" arc, Tony Stark has just experienced the aftermath of the Phoenix Force's "death" in Avengers vs. X-Men; in issue #6 he dons a new deep-space armor and expands his range of activity from Earth to the stars. Stark intercepts a pirate fleet in the distant Voldi star region and is therefore granted an audience with Voldi Princess Veritina; in the Voldi fortress and palace he encounters the sacred relic the Voldi heart, which the Voldi treat as the source of their power. Yet what should be easy interstellar socializing quickly takes a sharp turn: Tony is accused of killing the god the Voldi worship—the Phoenix, called the "Falcon of the Void"—and is arrested for "deicide," his armor stripped off and himself thrown into a cell. This issue completes, within a single installment, the pivot from "Earthly business empire" to "cosmic mystery," takes up the Phoenix Force thread left by Avengers vs. X-Men, and introduces new characters such as the Voldi and the Supreme Justiciar, paving the way for the investigation and reversals of issues #7 and #8. This volume is issue #6 of the series, the first of three parts of "The Godkiller."
