Wild Physician is an urban-life novel by the web author Mianbi de Heshang, serialized on Qidian since 2012. The protagonist, Zhao Yang, is a young man from a mountain village who, by a stroke of luck, receives a traditional Chinese medicine lineage called "Xiaoyaozi," and from then on develops an extraordinary medical skill that can "illuminate qi and blood, penetrate yin and yang, and judge life and death." Zhao Yang then steps out of the mountain village into a wider world: with his bare hands he can identify the root of stubborn and complex diseases, and he resolves crises by means that seem bizarre yet accord with medical principles, which is why he is sought after by powerful politicians, wealthy merchants, entertainment stars, and people from all walks of life. Word on the street has it that he can cure illnesses others cannot, but will only save those he chooses to save; and that once you become his friend, you have gained an extra life. Through a series of events in which Zhao Yang treats patients, handles complex relationships near and far, and maneuvers among various factions, the story shows the collision and rebirth of traditional medicine in the modern city, and also portrays a young physician's growth from ignorance to maturity. During its serialization, the work accumulated more than 1.5 million clicks and over 20,000 bookmarks, received a featured cover recommendation on the Qidian homepage, and has now exceeded 1.2 million characters in length.
