Reborn Vol. 4

This volume is the fourth installment of the Captain America: Reborn series, corresponding to issue #4 of the original 2009 single issues. The story revolves around the truth that Steve Rogers "did not truly die": the shot that assassinated him was no ordinary weapon but a time-space technology devised by Doctor Doom, which cast his consciousness into the stream of time. Red Skull, Crossbones, and Sin travel to Latveria to meet with Doctor Doom; Arnim Zola attempts to pull his old adversary back to the present through a time platform, and the key "anchor" in their plan is Sharon Carter, who is under Norman Osborn's control. Meanwhile, Steve, trapped at the other end of time, is fighting Madame Hydra's faction, with Rick Jones at his side. After analyzing the time-space gun, Reed Richards and Hank Pym confirm that Steve is out of sync with reality and that Sharon is the key to bringing him back; Vision then delivers a message Steve had hidden deep within himself, corroborating this deduction. Sharon's blood contains a time marker that theoretically allows Steve's whereabouts to be tracked. Bucky (the current Captain America), Black Widow, and Ronin's faction raid H.A.M.M.E.R. vehicles in search of Sharon. At the end of this volume, Sharon is taken to Latveria and hooked up to a device; Steve, in accelerated time, is forced to relive the moment his best friend Bucky "fell in battle," then is pulled back and becomes attached to Red Skull's body—and the first words spoken by the one who wakes declare that the one who has returned is not entirely Steve Rogers. This volume is the turning point where the series heads toward its climax.
