Summary

Legend of the Evil God is a fantasy novel by the web author Yun Tiangkong, serialized on Qidian Chinese Network from October 2005 and completed in July 2006, running about 2.58 million characters across more than seven hundred chapters. The protagonist, Leng Mo, is a ten-year-old prodigy from Earth holding dual doctorates in metallurgy and mechanics. By chance he obtains two martial-arts manuals, the Nine Yang True Classic and the Hundred-Battle Saber Technique, from a beggar at a very low price; an accident then carries him away from Earth through a gray crystal stone that has accumulated divine power, dropping him onto a magical continent where he is taken in by kind-hearted dwarves. In the dwarf tribe he learns axe technique and forging while cultivating internal energy and saber arts, gradually fusing them into a saber skill that dominates the world, and forges with his own hands the peerless evil blade known as the Evil God Slash. After the dwarf tribe is bloodily massacred by Bukenata, fourth prince of the Piaoxiang Empire, Leng Mo takes revenge as his starting point and steps into military service, academies, and battlefields, growing all the way in a world interwoven with humans, magical beasts, and gods, rising from apprentice warrior to Sword Saint, God of War, and ever higher realms. The book's hook is 'mechanical civilization intrudes into a magical continent,' melting together the Nine Yang Divine Art, blazing battle aura, fire magic, the fire phoenix familiar, and forging lore. It is an early benchmark of the otherworld-transmigration leveling genre, long occupying the top ranks of Qidian's click, recommendation, and collection charts and placing high on Baidu's search-trend list.

Editor's review

Who it's for

A good fit for

Not a good fit for

Reading tips

About the publisher

21st Century Publishing House China · Founded in 1985

21st Century Publishing House is a publisher rooted in children's books that has also extended into genre fiction. Judging from the 15 titles in the collection, its publishing covers categories such as mystery and detective fiction, wuxia novels, modern romance, and youth literature. Among these, mystery and detective works like the Moran Series and the Cool Coroner Series form a relatively distinctive product line, while its wuxia offerings include Xiao Duan's Bow and Flute: Pomegranate Notes and The Sound of the Flute. In terms of authors, works by Gui Maxing, Xiao Duan, Gongzi Liangye, and Rao Xueman are all included, reflecting an approach that balances genre writing with the tastes of young readers. Based on the available materials, the press shows a fairly clear pattern of serializing genre fiction, but public information on its overall publishing structure is limited and difficult to present in full.
