The Wicked Monkey

The Wicked Monkey is a xianxia cultivation web novel by the online author Farmer Uncle, serialized on Qidian from January 30, 2015, and completed on March 12, 2016, totaling about 1.47 million characters. It has been categorized as xianxia cultivation, combining elements of transmigration cultivation, the primordial-world genre, and the exotic-beast genre. The protagonist, Sun Qi, has a dual identity as both the "reincarnated Emperor Star" and a "demon monkey": he is the reborn star on whom the human race pins its hopes, and at the same time a beast, which draws him into the contests and manhunts of every faction on the Xuanzhou continent. The work opens with bantering dialogue of the "are you human or demon" kind and unfolds its cultivation and adventures in a colloquial, dialogue-driven, lighthearted style. Around Sun Qi's growth—obtaining the essence of the Li fire, merging with a bronze cauldron to open his heavenly eye—it gradually spreads out the struggles among the Heavenly Court, the beast clans, the Three Pure Ones' teaching, the Nine Heavens, the Western teaching, and the demon race over the four reincarnated Emperor Stars, and in its later stages reveals through ten lifetimes of reincarnation his connection to the legacy of the Great Sage Equal to Heaven. The book runs over 560 chapters in five volumes, a typical male-oriented cultivation power-fantasy with brisk pacing, alternating banter and hot-blooded battle; on completing it the author announced his new book, The Lost Realm.
